Silver was overshadowed by other precious metals last year and this trend shows little sign of changing, says Suki Cooper, analyst at Barclays Capital.

She says: "Although prices appreciated by 15 per cent during the course of 2007, silver has remained something of a Cinderella, albeit with less chance of making it to the ball."
