Hotel owner victorious in extradition battle with US

Beatrice Tollman, the wealthy and well-connected hotel owner, has become the first individual accused of white-collar crimes in the US successfully to see off an extradition attempt under the controversial new US-UK arrangements.

A district judge has decided that owing to Mrs Tollman's state of health, it would be unjust or oppressive to extradite her. He also ruled out adjourning her case because "it appears to me that Mrs Tollman's physical and mental condition is unlikely to recover within the foreseeable future".
