Arab states urge more cautious US policy on Syria

Arab governments are urging a more cautious US policy towards Syria, warning that undermining the regime of Bashar al-Assad could also destabilise Lebanon and exacerbate the insurgency in Iraq.

Most Arab governments, led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt, backed international demands for an immediate Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon in the aftermath of the February killing of Rafiq Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister.
