JCB chief calls for wage subsidies

Sir Anthony Bamford, one of the UK’s most senior industrialists, has called for wage subsidies to support employment at manufacturers in financial trouble as a result of the downturn.

The chairman of JCB, the construction equipment producer, also wants the government to start a “multibillion-pound” investment in infrastructure development – modelled on similar programmes in the US and China – to help propel Britain out of the recession.
