Kazakh miner leads as sector strikes rich seam

Mining stocks were the standout performers on Wedneday in a London market that crept higher in spite of more worrying inflation news.

Leading the way was Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation. Shares in the Kazakh miner, which listed at 540p before Christmas, rose a further 7.2 per cent to a record high of £14.76 after a trading statement impressed.
