McCain nomination within reach

John McCain took another step towards the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday by winning several important state primaries and caucuses but fell short of the landslide victory he hoped would end the race.

The Arizona senator won a slew of northeastern states, including New York, and California, the biggest of the 22 states contested on Super Tuesday.
