Tax haven clampdown spurs cash outflow

Hundreds of millions of pounds have been taken out of offshore tax havens in recent months ahead of an EU clampdown on tax evaders that came into effect on Friday.

UK banks and building societies with operations in offshore centres such as the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man have reported cash outflows of about 5 per cent of the funds from personal deposit accounts.
