Rivals for mayor trade blows

Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson set the tone for the London mayoral election on Tuesday as they launched their campaigns with scathing attacks on each other.

As nominations opened, marking the official start of what promises to be a bitter campaign, Mr Livingstone, the Labour mayor, warned Londoners not to “turn back the clock” by electing his Conservative rival.
