Sympathy strikes to ‘safeguard future’

There were no picket lines at Sellafield on Monday. But hundreds of contractors showed dedication simply by battling through driving snow before turning round to go home again.

By 8am only a couple of hardy union officials remained in a snowbound car park that normally houses minivans and cars bearing around 900 people involved in refitting and cleaning up the nuclear plant. It has become a familiar sight across the country as strikes spread.
