Microsoft and Ask.com seek better privacy safeguards

Two of the world's biggest internet search companies today will call for the industry to develop better safeguards for protecting their users' search histories and other personal information.

The request from Microsoft and Ask.com, which operate the third and fourth-biggest search engines, respectively, comes amid heightened concerns on both sides of the Atlantic about the amount of personal information that is stored, analysed and exploited by internet companies.
