Overview: Investors continue to fret over economy

Equity markets endured another extremely nervous session on Wednesday as investors continued to fret about the prospects for the global economy.

Barclays Capital said its equity risk indicator suggested market sentiment had deteriorated to a level even weaker than in March 2001, just prior to the bursting of the dotcom bubble.
