Big rush to crack down on abusive schemes

The Treasury has rushed forward its new crackdown on tax avoidance to stop a fire-sale of abusive schemes over the next four months.

In a surprise move, accountants, bankers and lawyers who sell avoidance schemes to companies and individuals were yesterday put under an immediate duty to provide details to the tax authorities.
