Challenge grows to Sarkozy’s Nato ambitions

Nicolas Sarkozy’s plan to take France back into the permanent command structure of Nato is facing mounting opposition, including from his own centre-right party.

The president is expected to confirm that France will resume its full role in the alliance – 43 years after Charles de Gaulle pulled his country out – at the Nato summit on April 3-4.
