Dora Bakoyannis, the high-profile mayor of Athens, was appointed Greek foreign minister yesterday in a cabinet reshuffle prompted by a wire-tapping scandal involving mobile phones belonging to Costas Karamanlis, the prime minister, and other prominent Greeks.

Mrs Bakoyannis replaced Petros Molyviatis, 75, who is retiring from politics.
