Greenspan questions call for dollar decline

Alan Greenspan on Sunday said it was not obvious that the dollar was overvalued, arguing that it had already fallen because investors anticipated the need for depreciation in order to reduce the US current account deficit.

To say that it now had to fall further because of the size of that deficit was “double-counting” he said, reminding listeners of the difficulty in forecasting currency movements.
