Saxony minister resigns over Sachsen crisis

Horst Metz, finance minister of the eastern German state of Saxony, resigned on Friday over the banking crisis surrounding Sachsen LB, the troubled public bank.

The move represents the most dramatic political fall-out to date in Germany from the international financial turmoil of recent weeks that has seen last-minute rescues of two German banks – Sachsen LB and IKB – after they failed to handle exposure to volatile credit markets.
