Fujimori to run in Japan elections

Peru vowed on Thursday to press on with its attempt to extradite Alberto Fujimori from Chile, in spite of the former Peruvian president’s declaration that he would run for election in Japan.

Mr Fujimori’s move added another bizarre twist to an extraordinary political career, in what appeared to be a ploy to avoid facing Peruvian justice. Mr Fujimori, 68, who was born in Peru to Japanese parents, is under house arrest in Chile, pending the result of extradition hearings.
