Discovery Communications has sued Amazon.com, accusing the makers of the Kindle electronic book device and service of infringing on patents on security technology developed by its founder.

The owner of the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC said the e-books copyright protection technology used by Amazon had been developed by John Hendricks, its founder, as part of his work in the 1990s on the delivery of digital content.
