Experts sceptical on official growth forecasts

Economists are broadly sceptical of the Treasury and Bank of England’s forecast of a rebound in economic growth starting at the end of this year, a Financial Times survey reveals.

A large majority of the economists surveyed think Gordon Brown needs to raise taxes or slow the growth of public spending further than he already plans to restore health to the public finances.
