Drivers impressed by the new “adaptive headlights” on their large BMW saloons probably do not know that the fancy multi-directional beams were originally developed by Fiat at its main research centre outside Turin. The headlights react to steering wheel angle, movement and vehicle speed to shine light where you next need it.
Such wizardry is pretty standard for Orbassano, which was founded in 1976 and where Fiat has 1,000 people working on materials, technologies and transmissions, and on safety, weight and emissions.
