Poland's ruling centre-right Civic Platform party won a resounding victory in Sunday's elections to the European parliament, winning 44.4 per cent of the vote, according to the country’s electoral commission.
Donald Tusk, the prime minister, celebrated the result as a vote of confidence in his government, which has been in power since 2007. "Governing in times of an economic crisis, in difficult times, is really something," Mr Tusk told cheering supporters after polls closed. As in most other European countries, national issues dominated the campaign.
