Warning on unclaimed pensions assets

Any attempt to use unclaimed pension assets to boost the pensions of those who lost out when their companies went bust raises hugely complex legal and technical issues, a senior government actuary is expected to warn today.

The warning will come as the government attempts tomorrow to stave off defeat in the Commons over Lords' amendments that would force it to set up a "lifeboat fund" to provide further help to the 125,000 people who have lost out.
