Shocked steelmakers brace themselves for another tough year

The suddenness of the fall in steel demand in recent months has left many of the industry’s bosses in a state of shock and there are few obvious signs that the outlook is going to get better in the immediate future.

Global steel production could easily plunge by 10 per cent or more next year, with China leading the slump in output.
