Treasury braces for inflation letter from King

Inflation is rising so quickly that the Treasury is preparing to receive on Tuesday only its second letter from the Bank of England explaining the jump, even before it has seen the figures.

Speaking ahead of the Group of Eight finance ministers’ meeting in Osaka, Alistair Darling, chancellor of the exchequer, said: “The twin shocks of the credit crisis and commodity price inflation are affecting economies right across the world, including our own.”
