John Lewis forced into bigger discounts

Greater discounting than normal during its summer clearance sale helped John Lewis enjoy a sales boost, reversing four weeks of decline.

Cash-conscious shoppers proved willing to take up the department store’s offers of up to 50 per cent off several products. Weekly sales at the chain rose 5.9 per cent compared with the same period last year.
