MasterCard to fight EU payment ruling

MasterCard has launched a legal challenge to the decision by Europe’s competition authorities that the card company’s fees on cross-border payments are illegal.

The European Commission ruled in December that the credit card company’s so-called interchange fees for cross-border card transactions breached European competition rules because they unjustifiably inflated costs for retailers and consumers.
