Kazakhstan warns against travel to Xinjiang

Kazakhstan on Tuesday warned its citizens against travelling to Xinjiang province as ethnic Uighur protesters clashed with police in the region for a second day.

The riots in Xinjiang have touched a raw nerve in Kazakhstan, home to about 300,000 Uighurs, a Turkic ethnic group, many of whom have fled persecution in China over the past 40 years. Cultural and linguistic links underlie a brisk cross-border trade.
