Rocky road for European car sales

The rate at which European car sales are falling more than doubled in August, attesting to collapsing consumer confidence on the continent and pointing to more trouble ahead for vehicle manufacturers.

New car registrations fell by 15.6 per cent last month after dropping 7.3 per cent in July, and are down by nearly 4 per cent to date, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (Acea) said on Tuesday.
