Non-traditional approach pays off for Unilever

When several spots were due to come open simultaneously on the Unilever board last year, the company went looking for directors who could bring a new perspective.

Two of the choices were women, and one of them, Dr Geneviève Berger, was also French and a scientist. She joined the board in February 2007 and immediately appreciated the company’s decision not to make her a lone female voice.
