G7 pledges to avoid protectionism

Finance ministers and central bankers from the Group of Seven industrialised democracies meeting in Rome on Saturday expressed a strong sense of urgency in tackling the global crisis and reaffirmed their commitment to work together “using the full range of policy tools”.

A final statement, however, was framed in terms of general principles rather than fresh initiatives and cautioned that the full effects of the G7 response to date needed time.
