Children under five would be the next group to be given priority in receiving the swine flu vaccine, Sir Liam Donaldson, the chief medical officer, said on Thursday as latest figures showed a big increase in the number of young children in hospital with the disease.
Cases of swine flu fell for the second week running last week, down to an estimated 53,000 in England against 84,000 a fortnight ago. Scotland, too, recorded fewer cases, although Sir Liam said it was too early to say whether the second wave had peaked.
