Watchdog warns on fears over tax credit errors

Hundreds of thousands of often vulnerable people are facing constant worry that they are being paid too much in tax credits that they will have to give back, parliament’s public spending watchdog said on Monday.

A “breathtaking” £7.3bn has been overpaid in child and working family tax credits in the first four years of their operation, with Revenue & Customs still seeking to recover £4.3bn, the Commons public accounts committee said.
