Drug groups brace for EU competition probes

Drug companies are bracing for a series of European Union probes into anti-competitive behaviour following publication this week of an intensive inquiry into the pharmaceutical sector.

Neelie Kroes, EU competition commissioner, will later this week release interim findings from an investigation launched in January to examine practices by innovator and generic drug companies that she suggested could be slowing the launch of both new patented and cheaper generic medicines.
