Business fears new wave of EU labour regulation

European employers said yesterday they feared a new wave of labour market laws, after Brussels set out a green paper designed to ensure "flexibility and security for all" in the workplace.

Vladimir Spidla, European Union employment commissioner, said his paper aimed to encourage debate about how the 25-member bloc could develop a flexible labour market while ensuring basic rights for workers.
