Monaco edges towards tax transparency

Monaco, the Mediterranean city-state that is home to 25,000 wealthy foreigners, is seeking to shed its status as an “uncooperative tax haven” by adopting international standards on trans­parency.

It stated on Thursday: “In view of last Friday’s announcement of significant progress in bilateral discussions between the European Union and other states, Monaco declares that it is ready to increase its co-operation in the fight against tax fraud in accordance with international criteria.”
