Turquoise plays down need for speed

Speed is no longer the main competitive advantage in the battle for market share of equity trading in Europe because rapidity has become "commoditised", according to the head of Turquoise, the alternative equities trading platform.

Eli Lederman, chief executive, said that because most trading platforms had cut the time it takes to execute a trade down to microseconds, speed was no longer as important as it had been in recent months.
