England excels in school tests

England has beaten a host of economic competitors in an set of global tests for maths and science taken by 10 and 14-year-olds.

The latest Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study shows England scoring more highly in all four tests than several other rich western countries, including the US, Australia, Italy, Sweden and Scotland.
