Threat of ‘problem gambling’ levy

Gambling operators will be warned on Tuesday that they face a potential statutory levy as the government scraps plans for Britain’s first Las Vegas-style super-casino.

Andy Burnham, culture secretary, is expected to tell MPs that he will introduce legislation to force the industry to fund support for problem gambling unless operators boost voluntary payments by the end of the year.
