Senators reject plea to back new Iraq plan

Senators from both parties on Wednesday exposed President George W. Bush’s isolation over the Iraq war by rejecting his State of the Union appeal to give his decision to send more troops a “chance to work”.

The powerful Senate foreign relations committee voted 12-9 on Wednesday to approve a non-binding resolution opposing the president’s new war strategy and send it for a vote on the Senate floor, possibly next week.
