Senate leaders in housing bill accord

US Senate leaders on Wednesday agreed on a bipartisan housing bill that will deliver significant government aid to struggling mortgage borrowers, but also include a big tax break for homebuilders.

The deal, negotiated by Democrat Chris Dodd and Republican Richard Shelby, senior lawmakers on the banking committee, follows increasing pressure for Congress to address the mortgage crisis, which has been at the root of the US economic slowdown.
