Retailers braced for ‘horrible’ year

At Diverse, a family-run company with two small fashion boutiques in Islington, the sales started before Christmas this year for the first time in more than 20 years in business.

Rosa Lamche, a manager at the upmarket clothes stores, says profits will be hurt by the discounting, but that it was a necessary tactic to bring in cash after customers dwindled during the autumn.
