Franco-British fraternity hailed

Nicolas Sarkozy and Gordon Brown will today announce joint initiatives on peacekeeping, immigration, the economy and nuclear cooperation, as part of a new "Franco-British fraternity" aimed at pursuing common interests in the world.

In a speech to both houses of the UK parliament, the French president yesterday said the traditional Franco-German motor was no longer enough to drive the European Union, and the Paris-London friendship was "indispensable".
