Collective investment trusts muscle in on DC market

Driven by regulators’ scrutiny of retirement plan fees and expenses, and a greater awareness of the products, collective investment trusts (CITs) are positioned to steal significant market share from traditional US mutual funds, analysts say.

These stripped-down, pooled investment structures have been available through defined contribution plans for years. But in the past three years, providers say, plan sponsors have become more interested in these offerings.
