Novartis and Roche, the two Swiss drugs groups, exemplify the resilience of the European pharmaceuticals sector in turbulent times.

While the share prices of both are off their highs – and Novartis has been castigated for its lacklustre equity performance over a period of years – both have easily outshone the broader equity market over the past year.
