Osborne pledges bank competition inquiry

A Conservative government would use a competition probe into the banking sector to help determine which institutions should be allowed to buy the taxpayer shares in the banks, George Osborne, the shadow chancellor, disclosed on Monday.

Mr Osborne also pledged early action under a Tory administration to grant licen­ces to the “queue” of organisations bidding to be banks.
