Asia Pacific shares rose for the ninth day in a row – the longest series of consecutive daily gains since for the MSCI Asia Pacific index since August 2004 – as the yen weakened overnight and oil and commodity prices rose.

Chinese shares climbed 3 per cent in value, and markets in South Korea, New Zealand and Australia gained between 1 and 2 per cent.
