GM attitude hardened on bottom line

Whatever its motivations for clinging to Opel, General Motors is a more hard-nosed carmaker since it emerged from bankruptcy four months ago.

During that procedure, the company’s board was gutted and Ed Whitacre, former AT&T chief executive, was brought in by Washington as chairman.
