Falling oil leads retreat across commodities

Commodity markets staged a broad-based retreat this week, with oil prices tumbling below the $116 level on Friday while grains, base metals and gold all saw mounting selling pressure.

Increased margin requirements, due to high levels of price volatility and greater concerns about counterparty risk, have forced some hedge funds to close long positions right across commodity markets.
