Agency holds out against Google books deal

William Morris Endeavour, the Hollywood talent agency, on Friday advised the authors it represents not to participate in the sweeping digital books agreement reached last year between Google and representatives of the book industry.

Its continued resistance to the deal pointed to a growing rift with the Authors Guild, whose class action lawsuit against Google helped lead to the provisional agreement. The Guild, which represents 8,000 authors, had already denounced William Morris’s resistance to the plan as misinformed, while reiterating its own strong support for the deal.
