Ford Motor is bringing in a 28-year veteran of its overseas operations to run struggling Volvo as the first non-Swede ever to head the premium carmaker.

London-born Stephen Odell, 53, will take over as Volvo’s chief executive on October 1, replacing Fredrik Arp, who Ford said had decided to leave the brand after heading it for three years.
